We will be inviting our speaker to lunch after our meeting, so if you have the time, you are welcome to join us.

This month, our speaker is Emily Porter, Ecologist with Hawthorn Hollow. Emily serves as the Ecologist at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum in Kenosha,Wisconsin, and as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Natural Science at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Natural Resources with a focus on Ecological Restoration from Northland College, as well as a Master’s degree in Ecology from Utah State University. Emily is deeply passionate about ecological land management, habitat restoration, and environmental education. Her current work aims to support Hawthorn Hollow’s mission of cultivating appreciation, understanding and stewardship of our natural and local heritage through environmental education and sanctuary preservation.

In the presentation, she will cover the different habitat types found at Hawthorn Hollow, ongoing and past conservation and restoration efforts, and some of our environmental education and community engagement programs (including those supported by Wild Ones in the past).

We will be hosting a Zoom web stream for her presentation as well if you are unable to attend in-person. Contact Brandon at [email protected] for Zoom sign-in details.
